Sandvik Rock Processing was established on 1st October 2001 and on the very same day received its first large order. The order came from Argentina’s giant copper and gold mine, Minera la Alumbrera, located in the Catamarca district of Argentina. After in-house engineering studies at the mine, it was decided to install two cassette-system H-6000 Hydrocone crushers. This system makes it easy to take the whole unit – including crusher, motor and oil tank – to a workshop for maintenance. The order covers not two, but three crushers. The third unit is a stand-by machine for quick change-out, when crushing liners need replacing. This quick-change cassette system minimizes interruptions in production and thus cuts costs. The installation is a new circuit to crush the pebbles coming from the mine’s SAG (semi-autogeneous grinding) mills.

On 3rd October SRP received another even larger order. This one came from the Codelco, Division El Teniente mine in Rancagua, Chile and was for four units of the largest member of Sandvik’s range of Hydrocone crushers, the H-8000. Again, the machines will be used in a new pebble-crushing technology in connection with an expansion at the mine. The H-8000 Hydrocone crusher is well known within the Codelco Group and this latest order will bring the total up to 15 units operating in three of their copper mines.

“This is a breakthrough for us in pebble crushing, and the fact that we received these orders in the very first few days gave us a better start than we could ever have imagined,” says Christian Ottegren, Global Mining Market Manager.

Both orders were won in the face of hard competition after detailed studies had been made by the customer and their consultants.

Total order value for the two projects exceeds US$6 million.
